Fishing
Several of our reservoirs are open to the public for fishing, except on days of total fire ban.
Reservoirs are open to Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) fishing licence holders – a fishing permit from Central Highlands Water is not required.
To ensure the domestic water supply is protected from contaminants, please follow these simple rules:
- Always carry your Victorian fishing licence
- Only light fires in the fireplaces provided
- No firearms
- Animals are not permitted
- Vehicle access only in approved areas
- No wading
- Fish only in approved areas
- Take your rubbish home with you
- No digging for bait
- Using berley is not permitted
- No access on days of total fire ban
- Gathering firewood is not permitted
- No boating/kayaking
- Comply with direction(s) given by a Central Highlands Water Authorised Officer
Failure to follow these guidelines may result in prosecution under the Victorian Water Act.

Apply for a fishing licence
A recreational fishing licence covers all forms of recreational fishing in all of Victoria's marine, estuarine and freshwaters.
To purchase a licence online go to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning website.
Alternatively, obtain a licence from many DPI offices and more than 980 retail businesses throughout Victoria, including most retail fishing tackle stores.
